The Engineering English programme focuses on technical and semi-technical vocabulary and enables learners to become familiar with and practise using the specialist language they need for this line of industry. 

Authentic texts and realistic tasks help prepare learners for their everyday working lives. An emphasis on listening and speaking helps learners to develop their communicative ability within this professional field.

This programme contains 10 units and they are as follows :

  • Technology in use
  • Travel
  • Change
  • Organisation
  • Advertising
  • Brands

Each unit will concentrate on the technical sides of the theme in discussion. Then it shifts into the language side of the theme. Afterwards, the students will be introduced to authentic texts about the subject at hand. For instance Unit 1 goes as the following :

Skills 
- Describing technical functions and applications
- Explaining how technology works
- Emphasising technical advantages
- Simplifying and illustrating technical explanations

Language 
- Words stemming from use, allow, enable, permit, ensure, prevent
- Verbs to describe movement
- Verbs and adjectives to describe advantages
- Adverbs for adding emphasis
- Phrases and collocations for simpifying and rephrasing

Listening 
- GPS applications
- Space elevators
- Advantages of a new pump
- A guided tour

Text
